Come visit me at Girly Bitz. It's my other interweb hangout.

Doing my best

So, I'm doing the 21 Day Fix program from Beachbody.  I'm just starting my second week and I've realized there are certain moves I just cannot do...yet.  Planks are very difficult for me, but I can usually power through them for a bit.  Side planks are impossible for me right now. I just don't have the balance yet.  I also struggle with burpees and mountain climbers, as most people do.

Instead of giving up, I'm taking the advice of a friend who says "do your best and forget the rest" (Truitt, 2017).  Sorry.  My grad student brain took over for a second there and I could not stop myself from citing the source.

Anyway, after a complete meltdown over my lack of ability to do the above exercises, I decided to listen to my wise friend.  I'm doing my best and forgetting the rest.  I will get stronger.  I will get better.  I will be able to do a side plank, even if it kills me.  But it won't.  Will it?  I might have to google this.

Do you have exercise related meltdowns?  What brings them on and how do you get over them and get back on the horse, so to speak?

I forgot what day it is.

But that's okay, because I'm still doing it.

Today's motivation? That moment when you have to get on your knees and do a modified plank because the regular plank is too much and your belly touches the mat.  Yep.  That belly full of Mom's delicious homemade fudge, your coworker's homemade cookies (especially those lime ones...mmm), and all those times you opted for sweet potato fries instead of a side salad.  All that just hangs there, touching the mat while you struggle to hold yourself up for just ten more seconds.

That's my motivation.  What's your motivation?

Day Five

Day Five, because I don't want to talk about Day Four and the evil of Pilates.  So, Day Five.  I think it's so cute when she reminds us to breathe in through our mouths and out through our noses.  As if we aren't all panting with our mouths open, spit flying all over the screen, gasping for our last breath, trying not to vomit.  She's adorable.

Day Three

Lunges are the spawn of Satan.  That is all.

Day Two

Day Two of the new workout routine is done.  Due to the sickness that has taken over my nasal areas, I had to have some workout survival essentials at hand.  For this particular sickness, essentials included tissues, ginger drops (because I am out of cough drops), lip balm and shots of medicinal moonshine.  Everything you need to power through any workout (not doctor recommended).

It was a little easier than yesterday, but still challenging.  I did it though.  I will do it again tomorrow, hopefully with less need for medicinal moonshine (not doctor recommended).

Day One: Part Duh

Hey all.  Did you know that consistent healthy eating and exercise can lead to consistent healthy feelings and not being winded as you struggle to get your fat ass on the escalator at the mall?  Yeah.  Who knew?!

As you have probably guessed, I did not know.  Or at least I did not remember.  Now, I am back at square one.  Well, actually, square one and some of the adjacent squares as well because I'm overflowing at this point.  You all know what I mean.

I have reached the unhealthiest point of my life thus far and there is no turning back now. It's either continue getting fat and feeling gross or change the plan and start to feel better.  Duh.

Today, I started a new exercise plan and it was not pretty, but I did it. I cursed at the instructor at the top of my lungs pretty much the whole way through, but I did it.  I may have even cursed the instructor's mother and her unborn children, but things got a little fuzzy in the middle there and I can't be sure I was even speaking coherent sentences.  But, I did it.

I did it and I will do it again tomorrow.  Hopefully, with a little less cursing, but I make no promises.

Day One. Deja vu Edition.

The last several posts are all lamentations on how fat I feel and how I'm tired of it and how I'm ready to change.  But, no change ever happens.

So, there's that.

For the past 2 and a half years, I've been talking the talk but not walking the walk.

My goal, this time, is to start walking the walk.  I plan to come on here 5 days a week and document my walk.  What I'm eating.  What I'm doing to be healthier.  How that's making me feel.

That's it.  Plain and simple.

Shall we begin?

Today was not off to a great start.  I awoke with a migraine and a lot of nausea.  Breakfast was a ginger ale and 2 slices of toast.  Lunch was 4 whole wheat waffles with 2 tbsps of butter and some low calorie syrup.

I'm not sure what dinner will be.  I have a fairly busy afternoon ahead of me and might end up eating out because I may not have time to prepare anything.  It's just the reality of the day.

I plan to snack on an apple while I take the little dog to the vet.  Weather and time permitting, I may also take both dogs for a walk around the neighborhood.

That's today.

Tomorrow will be better.

Changes.

I'm making some changes around here.  I wanted to spice things up a bit, so I went with a red theme.  Nothing fancy.  Just some new digs for a new attitude.

I'm tired of feeling like I'm gross.  I want to regain my self confidence, my inner spark and get a little sexy back.

I know it's going to require a little more than changing up my colors.  I have a lot of work to do.  It's time to start making some bigger changes and I'm ready to do it.

You in?
Okay.  Day Two of the new year and things are going pretty well.

I am slowly finding my motivation.  It's funny how quickly you forget the calorie content of foods when you haven't tracked them for awhile.  It's funny how portion sizes go completely out of your head too.

It'll come back to me though.  It always does.

I did log into My Fitness Pal today and dusted off my profile page over there.  That's progress. .

Once I go to the grocery store and stock up on healthy stuff, I can plan some meals and get back into tracking every day.

Today was another good day so far.  Another healthy breakfast of Cheerios with fresh blueberries.  A nice lunch of chicken moroccan soup with chick peas and a fat free peach yogurt.  MB and I went out for dinner and got strombolis.  We each ate half and saved the other half for tomorrow.

Baby steps, people.  Baby steps.

Today was a good day.

I stopped by in October to say that my BLitz was back on.  HA!  Needless to say, it wasn't.  Now I'm back to say the same thing.

I know.  I know.

You've heard it all before.  Well, I've said it all before.

I can't say how successful I'll be this time around.  Each time around is a little different.  What I can say with certainty is that I'm going to try...again.  I'm tired of being in the rut that I'm currently in.

I want to get myself back on track and live a healthier life.  I want to feel better about myself.  I want to look in the mirror and not cringe.  I want to be able to relax and hang out with my friends without constantly tugging at my spanx.

I can totally do this and I know I can do this.  So, let me stop telling you what I want and just jump right in.

Today, I made healthy meal choices.  Today, I ate 1 Christmas cookie and gave the other 2 away.  Today, I did laundry and cleaned my house instead of immediately flopping on the couch after work. .
That's what I did today.

Tomorrow?  We'll see.

The BLitz is back!

Omg.  I have been slacking on the BLitz.

Between wedding planning, kitchen remodeling, dog drama and everything else that's been going on, BLitzing has really taken a back seat.

Which has really taken a toll on my back seat, if you know what I mean!  Yeah, that was a lame reference to my fat ass.  It's gotten fatter.  Shocking!

I actually had to go to the Goodwill to get new jeans because none of my jeans (or other clothes) fit very well anymore.  I pretty much gained back everything I had lost and maybe a little more.  I haven't been taking care of myself at all.  I've completely let the stress of my life go right into my face, in the form of bacon cheeseburgers, ice cream, cake, beer, etc.

Calories?  I haven't counted a calorie since September...of last year.

So, I'm back.  I'm trying to get my fat ass back on track, once again.  I know that posting my eats and chatting with fellow Fat Fighters was very helpful, so I figured I'd come back and start BLitzing again.

I'm going to be back later today to post my eats and tell you what my Fat Fighting plan is.  I'm also going to get back into the blogging community that was such an inspiration to me in the past.

So, is anyone still out there?  How is your journey going?

checking in.

So, I've been getting back into the calorie counting routine. It's hard, but I'm trying. I'm using My Fitness Pal as a tool and I like it so far.

I managed to stay under my calorie limit for two days in a row, but went over by 2 calories yesterday. That's not bad, though. No real exercise yet, although I have walked the dog for three days in a row.

Walking the dog is not as fun as it used to be now that we have the new puppy. He hasn't really learned his leash manners yet, so it's not an enjoyable walk. We'll get there, but right now it's not something I look forward to.

The weather is gorgeous here and I'm hoping that brings on some much needed motivation.

How are you doing with your Fat Fight?

Ugh.

Holy hell, do I feel fat.

It is seriously time to get on track. I'm at 195.4 right now. I haven't done any real exercise in months. I haven't planned a healthy meal in months. It's pitiful.

No worries, though. I'm feeling that motivation again. That skinny bitch inside is itching to come out again and she's making me want to change.

MB and I have decided to count calories again. It worked really well for us before the wedding. We've also decided to commit to some sort of cardio at least 3 times a week. It's so much easier to do this when you have someone by your side.

I love my hubby!

So, I'm setting a calorie goal of 1200 per day. I'm also setting an exercise goal of doing Slim in 6 three times a week. It's a really good workout for me and it helps motivate me because I see results pretty quickly. I'm also going to try to walk with the pup every day, as my work schedule allows.

I'm feeling pretty good about this whole Fat Fight again. :)

Remember me?

Holy fatness! I'm back!

In case you haven't noticed, I've been absent for the past few months. Of course, I did have a lot going on in my life.

MB and I got hitched on October 2. Yay! It was an amazing time filled with family, friends and lots of fun. Lots of stress also, but nothing we couldn't handle. MB and I both worked hard to lose weight so we could feel good on our wedding day. I lost 14.6 pounds and he lost too. He looked very handsome in his kilt and I was able to keep my backfat to a respectable minimum.

We honeymooned in Gettysburg, PA where we ate delicious food every night. We indulged in wedding cake (there was a lot left over), good beer and whatever fine fare the local restaurants had to offer. Not one single calorie was counted. We did stay pretty active, though. There was biking, hiking and plenty of walking around town.

While we were honeymooning, the in-laws took over our house and remodeled our kitchen for us. They are absolutely wonderful and so generous for giving us such an awesome gift. We heart them big time.

Of course, things got a little sidetracked, as home repairs often do. We returned from the honeymoon to find the new kitchen countertop laid out across the sofa. The contents of our kitchen were spewed throughout the house, along with the in-laws' belongings. The in-laws' 3 dogs and all of their belongings were also spewed throughout the house.

It took awhile for us to get things put back together and for us to be able to get our kitchen into working order again. Oh, yeah. Did I mention that I also brought a puppy home in the midst of all this chaos? And, we got a roomate?

Yeah. All of that happened. Sometimes we are not smart people who plan things well. What can I say.

How the heck does this relate to my waistline? Well, all of my good intentions and good eating habits went right out the window when faced with all of this chaos. My coping skills were nonexistent, resulting in a lot of binges that I'm not proud of.

MB was right there with me. We ate out almost every meal. We said goodbye to exercise as we were just trying to get through the day without killing each other.

Yeah. Stress.

Now that the air has cleared a little bit and we have regained our sanity, I'm desperate to get back on track. I hate that I've gained back 10 pounds. My jeans are getting tight. I'm getting a belly that makes people ask me if/when I'm getting pregnant. People like to harass newlyweds with such questions.

Rude.

So, I'm ready for some changes. MB and I are back to counting calories and using GNC's Total Lean shakes. We started hiking at the local trails again. We even set up a pantry in our house and stocked up on all the foods we need. No more eating out - except maybe once a week. We like eating out and don't want to completely deprive ourselves.

I know I can do it. I did it already. I just hope you will still be there with me. My fat ass could definitely use a little support.

Weigh in.

I've been doing pretty well with my weight loss, unintentionally. Down 14.6 pounds right now!

That's nothing to sneeze at.

I've been extremely inconsistent with my fat fighting lately. MB and I were doing well until we had to let our Skye girl go. After her death, we both spent several days stress eating. It's about the only thing we could do.

It's funny because we weren't over eating or anything. We were just eating very poorly. There was no meal planning. No calorie counting. It was pretty much just 'let's get the hell out of this painfully empty house and go get dinner'.

We have both been getting back on track the past few days. A friend gave us the Herbalife program to try. She sells it and wanted us to be guinea pigs. It involves two meal replacement shakes and supplements 2-3 times a day.

I tried it for two days and I'm not sure I like it. The supplements make me feel weird. I'm all hopped up when I take them and I don't like that feeling at all. I do like the shakes because it helps me to cut back on my meals. I like having one with soy milk in the morning and then having a healthy lunch and dinner.

It's been a good kick start for me, but I think I prefer eating healthy over skipping meals and taking supplements. It works for a lot of people, but I just find that I feel deprived and I feel hungry. I don't like that feeling.

I think it's back to daily tracking and healthy eats for me. I'll still be using the shakes, but I'm going back to what I feel comfortable with - calorie consciousness, portion control and exercise.

I do have a gown to get my fat ass into!

Weigh in.

Hey there!
I've been unable to keep up with my tracking, but I'm doing really well.

My weight is 188.2. I'm down 2.0 from last week's weigh in and 12.8 overall.

Woohoo!

This whole calorie counting thing is going well. MB and I are staying on track and seeing results.

Amazing how that works, isn't it?!?

So, my goal is to continue doing what I'm doing. Counting calories. Tracking my eats. Moving my fat ass.

Dress fitting is Sunday the 28th. After finally seeing results and breaking into the 180s (yay!), I'm feeling way less nervous about it.

Onward and downward!

Eats for Friday 8/12/11

I just realized that it's Friday the 13th, but then re-realized that it's technically now Saturday so it's not Friday the 13th at all.

Aren't you glad I shared that little moment of insanity with you.

Moving on...calorie counting is going well. Only one small problem.

Things are...ahem...not moving...ahem...in the belly region. I'm feeling really good except for the resulting bloat. Hopefully, a few fiber pills will...ahem...get things going again.

Again, aren't you glad I share these things with you?

You're welcome.

Eats and The Beast

I found myself snacking a lot today and I blame The Beast for that.

MB and I went for a bike ride in the late morning. He had a flat which detoured us to the bike shop and our ride ended up being a little after lunchtime.

I felt good when we started out, so I pushed myself a little. Big mistake. By the end, I was gasping for breath, dizzy and barfy. I was able to fend off the potential killer migraine (aka The Beast), but felt like I spent the rest of the day recovering.

Sometimes you have to eat weirdly when The Beast attacks. You never know which food may trigger the full blown Beast attack. I find myself snacking on little things to fend off the hunger and test what I'm able to tolerate before I eat a full meal.

Any other migraine sufferers out there with similar experiences?

Eats for Wednesday 8/10/11

I had a very stressful day due to the jerkiness of my dentist. In order to cope with this stress and the resulting depression that left me sulking on the couch, I took to the trails with the pup.

I also took to the cabinets in search of something chocolate. To my delight, I discovered that 1 tbsp of chocolate chips is only 70 calories.

Thank God for that.

Weigh in and eats for Tuesday 8/9/11

Well, hello there!
How are all of my fellow fat fighters?! Good I hope.

I'm doing well. Calorie counting is going very well.

I had a loss of 1.0 this week. That puts my total weight loss at 10.8.

I'm feeling really good about this whole BLitz thing again. MB is a great partner to lose with. We are kicking ass so far.

Of course, it's only been 3 days, but who's counting!

We stocked up on healthy, low calorie foods. We are both sticking to the calorie limit and we are both working out. It's so nice to have a partner in this fight. I mean, I know I have all of you, but you aren't in my living room. :)

I hope you are all doing well in your fat fights. I look forward to checking in with everyone.
